The development of WordPress in recent years has not only produced positive results but also scared away many regular users. Moreover, WordPress is not necessarily suitable for all types of web projects due to its "bulk".
Create a small niche site with 10-20 pages using WordPress? Better not! WordPress is just too massive and inefficient for that. A leaner alternative would be more suitable in this case.
The problem is that WordPress is very popular, and it is also good that there is no direct competition for it. Instead of competing with WordPress, many developers have taken the short cut and specialized in developing WordPress plugins and tools.
There is no direct alternative to WordPress.
If you can't find a good alternative to WordPress today that can replace it 1:1, it's simply because the market has accepted WordPress and there isn't enough demand for an alternative. The effort to develop a true WordPress alternative would be significantly higher than the chances of the project's potential success.
Those who are already building their website with WordPress might want to just stick with it. If you don't have an exact plan for how the website will develop in the future or how much it will grow, with WordPress, you have the assurance that the platform will grow with your needs.
On the other hand, if you know quite well that the website will remain rather small, there are two recommended options:
- Static website – a website can be completely static and created by hand. You develop a design template that uses technologies like HTML, JavaScript, and CSS, and you use this template to create all the sub-pages for the website.
- Homepage Builder – Website builders are a better alternative. There are many free website builders that allow you to create a website with the click of a mouse. The finished website ends up looking no worse than a WordPress website, but is much sleeker and faster.
If you're looking for an alternative, don't be afraid to do it by hand. Personally, I still create websites by hand that are streamlined and therefore blazingly fast, or I use inexpensive homepage builders if I don't have the time or inclination to do the necessary manual work.
